British Sector
The stories you will be hearing about the British airborne operations that took place there, at night, in the dark, behind enemy lines, as the first step of the whole invasion, are just incredible. Essential missions, Pegasus bridge and Merville battery had to be captured first.
And what a success ! Then at dawn, on the other side of the Orne river, the landing of the 3rd Division at Sword beach, quickly liberating local villages, including Hermanville and Colleville, officially renamed Montgomery since the war.
Your guide will also escort you to a German fortified area, code-named Hillman bunkers. You will be stopping eventually in one of the 16 British cemeteries in Normandy, in order to pay your tribute to the fallen.
