Villandry was first a feudal fortress which the only remains are the Dungeon, the base and the moats.
It's only in the XVIth century that Jean Breton, state finance secretary of Francis 1st, acquires the estate, building in 4 years, what will be the "last grand renaissance château of the Loire valley"
Despite many modifications through time, we discover today the architecture of the XVIth century Chateau, thanks to its new owner, Joachim Carvallo that bought it in 1906.
He restored it identically, not only the Chateau but also the renaissance gardens: a firework of plants and colors. A true garden philosophy in which we find two styles of the period : gothic and Italian.
Just take a stroll in the middle of this natural poetry.
