Indeed, even if it was royal from 1431 to 1563, period during which Amboise received the visit of different kings and queens (Queen Charlotte and Charles VII, that died there, respectively, in 1483 and 1498). Today, unfortunately, only 1/3 of the building of this period remains.
Start your visit by the Saint Hubert chapel, completed in 1493, by Flemish artists. The original sculpted door announces the quality of the interior decorations. This chapel houses Leonardo Da Vinci's tomb.
Then cross the court to discover the royal residence: in Amboise, the king and the queen had their own floors, going from to room to room , you will relive the organization of the chateau with rooms for dining, leisure and meetings, through to the bedrooms. Notice the wonderful great council hall in the king's dwelling which seats the institution of between 50 to 100 members.
Don't forget to notice the richness of the furniture (sideboards, chests and thrones?) along with the beautiful tapestries of Aubusson, Brussels and Tournai from the XVI and XVII th centuries.
The secret: only a guide can indicate to you the only door remaining from that period and will explain to you the strange death of Charles VII ,who knocked his head on one of them.
