After being destroyed by the flames in 1194, the Chartres cathedral was rebuilt in a quarter of a century and was spared by many conflicts that the town has known. Besides it beautiful architecture, the Chartres cathedral has one of the most greatest collection of stained glass windows in Europe and it is registered on the world heritage list of UNESCO since 1979. The medieval surroundings this pilgrimage site will bring you back to the middle ages with it's lavatories, half timbered houses and it's street names, reminding one of the trades of the past.
